The AI company with 5x less traffic just won

AXDAVID AI Weekly

Fortune confirmed it this week: Anthropic overtook OpenAI in revenue.

OpenAI reports $25–33 billion annualized. Anthropic is on track for $47 billion — and expects profitability in 2029, a full year before OpenAI.

Here's the part that should stop you:

ChatGPT gets 5.19 billion monthly visits. Claude gets 952 million.

Five times the traffic. Less revenue.

The reason is structural. Anthropic built 80% of its income on enterprise contracts — the kind that renew and expand instead of churning. Per the June Ramp AI Index, 41% of US businesses with paid AI subscriptions now pay Anthropic, ahead of OpenAI's 32.3% for the first time. Eight of the Fortune 10 are clients.

The lesson applies at every scale, including yours:

Attention is a metric. Retention is a business.

If you're a freelancer or solo operator, stop optimizing for reach and start optimizing for the client who pays you every month. One retainer beats a thousand impressions.

That's the model I'm building AXDAVID AI on — and it's the model I recommend you steal.

Meta Settles for up to $16.68 billion

Meta's Settlement Just Changed How Teens Use Instagram A settlement filed today in Oakland federal court will change how teenagers use Instagram and Facebook. Meta agreed to resolve claims from 29 states that it designed its apps to keep kids hooked, misled families about safety, and collected children's data without parental consent. It settled eight days into trial, before any verdict. Meta denies wrongdoing. The number is messier than the headline. Court papers put the payment at up to...

Big Tech reports $600B in AI capex but holds $3 trillion in off-balance-sheet commitments, illustrated by Meta's Hyperion data center structure

Everyone tracks Big Tech's AI capex. Roughly $600 billion over the past year across nine companies. Big number. Wrong number. The WSJ went through the footnotes of their SEC filings and found ~$3 trillion in additional commitments that don't appear on any balance sheet — about triple what these companies owe in leases and long-term debt combined. And it's growing faster than capex itself. Watch the mechanism in 25 seconds: Big Tech reports $600B in AI capex but holds $3 trillion in...

Meta released Muse Glimmer, a new open-weight AI model that's far smaller than rival frontier models. It's built for agentic tasks and runs on a Mac or PC with a single graphics card, targeting demand for on-device AI. The launch follows Meta's formation of an expensive superintelligence team last year to push back into the top tier of the AI race. Alongside the release, Zuckerberg called for lower US barriers on open-source AI to compete with China, arguing foreign labs hold advantages...
